Ch-ch-changes

Rainbow in the sky

Well. I think we can all agree that we didn't expect Spring 2020 to pan out quite like that.

Change is the only constant, as they say.  When I first came up with the idea of 'Pub Social Media' we had a Spring-Summer filled with Euros, Wimbledon, F1, and hopefully packed beer gardens to look forward to.  Many pubs had asked me to help them get their social media accounts up-and-running in preparation.  Suddenly Boris was telling everyone to stay out of pubs (cue double-takes from the entire industry) and it got a lot more serious than fans and likes.  Then came that Friday 5pm announcement and pubs the length and breadth of the country were busy wondering.....what next?  And so was I.

Throughout the lockdown, with so many unanswered questions ('unprecendented times', and all that), pub owners/managers are adapting.  Takeaways, deliveries, community shops, volunteering etc - many out of their comfort zones but determined to do their best to help their local communities and ensure their business survives.  So that's what I should do.

Originally this was going to be 'just' a blog about social media for pubs - how to get started, how to create accounts, finding your 'online voice', tone, customer service - and I've got a lot of blog drafts waiting to be posted about these.  But right now we need to come together like never before as the industry prepares to re-open its' doors to a general public absolutely gagging to be safe in a pub enjoying a quiet pint.  So this blog will be an ecelctic mix of useful links, interesting info, industry opinions, handy resources, and - yes - how pubs can use social media to connect with their community and customers.  Because if this (*gestures*) has taught us anything it's that community is what really matters.
